Melbourne is a big city with so much depth and many points of interest. It is in my opinion, the arts and culture capital of Australia. With everything from hidden arcade lane ways, to large architectural structures, along with its glorious old churches contrasting luxuriously modern buildings.
One of my favourite things to do in Melbourne is to explore the inner city lane ways which have so much character. Hosier Lane is a lane way that is vastly different to the cleanliness found throughout the rest of Melbourne. It is a lane way that provides a rough, urban and street vibe and in my opinion is one of the most interesting parts of Melbourne’s city.
Underneath the large graffiti works are small, personal messages of hope, despair, hate and love. It really is a playground for the eye, a ‘Where’s Wally’ game to find each and every intricate artwork that has been painstakingly detailed onto the public walls. The best part is that every time I go, there are new works that have been created. It is never the same as it was the last visit.
There is a beautiful contrast between the clean-cut, pristine high rises of Melbourne, and the historical, artsy lane ways. Which is why Hosier Lane is so intriguing.

If you would like to visit Hosier Lane, it is located in Melbourne’s city centre, just a short walk from central hub Flinders Street Station and Federation Square. (See map below)
